We played shows all over New York and theres one particular night that I will never forget. The band used to have a few parts of our songs that we would coreograph to add a little extra showmanship to the performance. Most of the time it was just a simple move that the band would do in unison. Before the show, the band decided to play a song in which the bassist and I would 'headbang' together for one of the bridges of the song. Unfortunately, at the moment we were supposed to do it, our singer bumped into both of us and thew us off rhythm. Neither of us were sure the other was going to continue the move so we both continued rocking out in our own way. Well, I guess we ended up headbanging exactly opposite of one another and my head went down as his went up. The headstock of his bass smashed into my forehead breaking the skin and knocking me out. I fell back into the wall and the impact woke me up. I looked around the stage, gathered my bearings, realized I was at a show and what song we were playing and came right back in. I only ended up missing a few bars of music, and I ended up playing the last couple songs with blood running down my face and onto my axe. It actually ended up being the highlight of the show and people wonderend if we had planned it! Needless to say the event became notorious aroung the scene and the next few shows actually had higher attendances because people wanted to see what the hype was about. So if anyone out there went to see the band Gear Grinder in the late 70's as a result of hearing the blood story, I appoligize for not living up to your expectations, and I can assure you, it was NOT planned!!! Artist Rating System:  - Platinum: We Should have been huge!  - Gold: We Should have been signed.  - Silver: Not too shabby at all.  - Vinyl: Day jobs were a good move, but jam on.  - Ouch: Ok, mom and dad were right! Story Rating System:  - Pulitzer Prize Winner!  - Rolling Stone is calling.  - The local paper is proud.  - High School perhaps.  - Wha?! Recapture the glory that never was, the groupies that weren't there, the equipment you couldn't afford, the egos beyond control. Were you a fan, a groupie, a roadie, a wanna be critic or writer, a pissed off boy/girlfriend? Revisit those clubs one more time and search for music you might have missed.
